In this regard, Purnia District Transport Officer Shankar Sharan Omi said that the Bihar government is conducting a special investigation of old vehicles, so that vehicles running without registration can be curbed. This initiative will not only avoid challan, but old vehicles will also be able to run on the roads legally.
Old vehicles will continue to run
Regarding the validity of registration, he said that for private vehicles, re-registration after 15 years will give 5 years validity. At the same time, commercial vehicles will be given one year validity. Even after this, if the vehicle is found roadworthy, then the registration can be renewed every 5 years or 1 year. According to Purnia District Transport Officer, the procedure for registration of 15-year-old vehicles has been fixed. The concerned Motor Vehicle Inspector will check the fitness and capacity of the vehicle. Registration will be allowed only if the vehicle is found roadworthy.
These documents will be required
He said that the vehicle owner will have to apply with updated Owner Smart Book Card, Aadhar Card, valid insurance certificate, Pollution Under Control Certificate, proof of payment of road tax, PAN card or Form 60/61 Form 25. The District Transport Officer said that vehicle owners can book slots online at parivahan.gov.in. Documents can be submitted directly to the District Transport Office.
How much fee will have to be paid
Government fee and tax will have to be paid for registration renewal. Rs 360 for two-wheeler, Rs 600 for car and additional Rs 200 for smart card. Fee may be different for commercial vehicles, which depends on fitness certificate and tax. After the process is completed, the new registration certificate will be sent to the registered address through post. This usually takes 1-2 weeks.
